![]() The term Cumbia refers to both a style of Colombian folk-dance music, which originated on the country's northern Atlantic coast, and its dominant rhythm, which was assimilated into a great deal of Latin-American music in the Northern Hemisphere. The name “cumbia,” however, comes from the word. Although its history goes back many centuries on the Colombia’s Caribbean coast, some scholars would argue that the term “cumbia” wasn’t actually used to describe any form of music or dance until the 1800s. ![]()
